NOTES FROM June 12, 2003 REGULAR MEETING
A regular meeting of the ICC was held on Thursday, June 12th, 2003. The meeting was chaired and called to order by Steve Lasley, at 10:00 a.m. in the ICS Conference Room.
PRESENT: seventeen members participated. Remote participants: Jack Kramer, Joel Parlin, Harry Trafford, and Josh Wilson. On-site participants: David Ayers, David Bauldree, Benjamin Beach, Jenny Brewer, Dennis Brown, Dan Cromer, Thomas Hintz, Dwight Jesseman, Mike Kanofsky, Steve Lasley, Tim Nance, Roberto Ramirez, and Mark Ross. (Also, a very suspicious Dude McBrewski appeared on the signup sheet :-)

NOTES:
The May 12 test demonstration of H.232 videoconferencing between Gainesville and Apopka was deemed a success. Tom Hintz spoke briefly on what they found, that video units are proliferating within IFAS, and the costs involved with purchasing units.
Jenny Brewer, our new District Two computer support person, was introduced by Dwight Jesseman and welcomed by all.
Steve Lasley will not be available to chair a July ICC meeting. It was left to the ICC to either arrange a replacement or to skip that meeting. Discussion is welcome on the ICC-L.
Steve Lasley asked for a volunteer to represent the ICC in pushing for remote participation in UF IT events. Nobody volunteered, but the offer remains open. Dan Cromer said he will continue to pursue such things as the opportunities provided themselves.
A Mark Ross sponsored recommendation on IFAS Software Deployment was approved without dissent.
Chris Leopold stated his goal of having written Personal Firewall policy and procedural recommendations available for ICC consideration at the next ICC meeting. He invited discussion via the ICC-L.
A new subcommittee of the ICC has been formed: the Network Security subcommittee. Tim Nance will chair. He recommended Jennifer Xu, Valarie Carter and possibly, Mike Armstrong and John Sawyer as members. Those interested may petition for inclusion through Tim.
Tim Nance informed us of UF's New Wireless Network Policy. The above mentioned subcommittee will add consideration of IFAS additions to this policy (as well as the procedural implementation details) to its agenda.
Chris Leopold and Dwight Jesseman outlined the trials and tribulations of moving basic services to newer machines and gave rough order and timeline estimates thereof.
Mike Kanofsky gave an update on the AD initiative as well as what he had experienced at Tech Ed this past week.
Steve Lasley shared a few details of the GFI LANguard Network Security Scanner. He also mentioned the attempted hostile takeover of PeopleSoft by Oracle, and the fact that Win98 has been given a reprieve on updates until the end of the year.
