This is a quick note to let you know that I've engaged CNS and started official negotiation for an IFAS IP Plan.

Subject: New IFAS IP Plan Proposal

Marcus (et al),

As previously discussed, I would like to start a dialog with you to formulate a new IFAS IP address plan. Basically, I would like to move all IFAS on-campus broadcast domains to an appropriately sized /24 or /23 (254 or 510 node subnet) private IP and a small /28 (14 node subnet) public IP subnet. For route summarization purposes, I would like to request that all private and public numbers be consecutive. The details of my proposed plan is as follows:

With the exception of 128.227.242.0/24 (Building 120 IFAS Computer Room) and 128.227.68.0/25 (IFAS VPN server), IFAS will by Dec 31st
give back to CNS all currently assigned on-campus public IP networks (11 x /24 and 1 x /25 networks). In exchange for 3 consecutively numbered blocks of /24 networks that will be further sub-divided into /28 networks and used to replace the current IFAS public IP space. Also, IFAS would like to request that the 10.242.0.0/16 (or simular) network be assigned as the private IP space to renumber the current ~40+ broadcast domains that are on campus.

If you don't have consecutively numbered blocks of /24 networks available, IFAS could use the 128.227.134.0/24 and 128.227.135.0/24 networks. I would then request for 128.227.136.0/24 or 128.227.137.0/24 network to be broken up for deployment in the "IFAS Farm Area" to free the currently used .135.0/24 and .134.0/24 networks for re-deployment.

Most of IFAS' broadcast domains are pretty well defined. However, some like the "Farm Area" (subnet 134/135) are unique in that it has a large node count spanning multiple buildings and departments on a single broadcast domain. As an example of this, I've attached a .jpg that shows the "Farm Area" broken up into 11 separate broadcast domains. However, this is more of a discussion topic for Dan Miller and his folks.

Returned IFAS Public Networks (by Dec 31st)
    128.227.4.0/24, 128.227.103.0/24, 128.227.109.0/24, 128.227.113.0/24, 128.227.117.0/24, 128.227.126.0/24, 128.227.182.0/24, 128.227.204.0/24, 128.227.207.0/24, 128.227.218.0/24, 128.227.249.0/24 and 128.227.68.128/25
