Recommendation for denying access to UF/IFAS computer resources for former students:

  • Status: approved by ICC, January 2014

  •
  • Background:

Access to UF/IFAS computer resources by former students has in some cases continued far beyond what the providers of the resources intended or desired. Consequently, the ICC would approve that a policy be implemented to address this matter.

  • Recommendation:
  • The ICC recommends that a policy be created that specifies the removal of access to UF/IFAS computer services (after some short period) to individuals whose only relationship with UF is one of being a former student.

The exact implementation procedures would need to be determined, but one option would be for automated centralized processes to move user accounts in UFAD to the Disabled OU based on appropriate roles and associations. Such a system is already in place (though not publicly documented) for retiring faculty that do not have emeritus status for example. Any such action would be reversible under local departmental control via setting the users as Departmental Associate.

Whatever procedures were implemented, they should be documented so that IT support can point former students to the official details of what will happen when as associations change.

  • Dissent:
  • None
