IFAS COMPUTER COORDINATORS (ICC)FEBRUARY 9th 2018 REGULAR MEETINGA meeting of the ICC was held on Friday, February 9th, 2018 in the IFAS Administration building, 89, Room 109. The meeting was chaired and called to order by Jimmy Anuszewski at about 10:02 am. PRESENT: Twenty-three members participated. Recorded Video: Video will be available here. Details about this meeting: I've deleted a lot of the old anchors that were in the minutes due to lack of updates. I suggest searching the ICC site for information that you may be looking for. Be on the lookout for a new site within the coming months. Patching updates... (previous discussion) Obviously, with the threats of Spectre and Meltdown, please continue to update your computers as time allows. Also be aware that Microsoft has issued statements that some computers are having slowdown issues, blue screen issues, etc. These are all case-by-case. Microsoft January's Microsoft patches are still listed in the link. Current risk assessments can be found here. There were several Microsoft Office updates to the Apple version, as recently as 1/26/18. Please run AutoUpdater to install those updates. Adobe Flash, Acrobat, Reader, Connect, along with several other Adobe products, have updates here. Last updates were in February 6th. Java Java updates were in January for Java 8U161, for all major platforms. Release notes can be found here. Java 9.0.4 is now available. You can download it here. Apple There have been several Apple updates (January 23rd), including a new system update, security updates and printer driver updates. This includes High Sierra, Sierra and El Capitan, along with iOS updates. SAS SAS University Edition recently had an update. Please visit this link. JMP JMP 13 is now available through the UF Software Licensing Division. Sigmaplot Sigmaplot 14 is now available through the UF Software Licensing Division. Two-Factor Authentication Michael Gettes, new Associate Director for Identity Services, and Richard Lowery, Director of UF Help Desk are here to discuss the implementation of the new Two-Factor Authentication system. If you have not signed up for this, the base website for info and signing up is located here. For campus IT Directors, you can also get more information pertaining to your environment here. I strongly encourage everyone to sign up so that you are familiar with it before your staff and faculty start to use it. Skype Business for Mac has updates that should install using your Microsoft Autoupdater.
PolicyContent Management System (CMS) (previous discussion) There have been no changes to IFAS/T4, though it seems that ICS has become open to template changes. Updates as available. Last month's IT@UF Meeting Notes You can now view the notes from each meeting at this link. This past month's meeting was cancelled. ITSA Policy and UF IT Policy I've found it difficult to find the ITSA Computing Policy and the UF IT Policies, so I will provide the links here and keep them here. ITSA - http://imm.ifas.ufl.edu UF IT - http://www.it.ufl.edu/policies/ There will now be an ICC Policy Page that will keep track of policy and guidelines. These are not strict rules meant to dictate what must be done, but instead, a page of policies that are meant to help keep things running smoothly for each department and ITSA. You can find it here. ProjectsWe are currently working on a new ICC site and integration of Yammer. Stay Tuned! The new site is planning on using Microsoft Teams, pending the outcome of the software policy exception being brought forth to the ITPAC members. OperationsIFAS IT Updates (previous discussion) Chris promised me a surprise for our Windows Insiders series. ITSA was recently hit with the flu, so things have been sparse in regards to available time to work on presentations. Currently, we have heard that the UF Microsoft group has sidelined Microsoft Teams. We will provide updates as they come along.
Other TopicsIFAS IT Updates Technically Speaking and Peer2Peer are both coming up this Spring. We hope to have an announcement very soon on the approval or rejection of Mark Minasi providing a 2-day, hands-on seminar. As most of you know, he is now retired but lives close to Gainesville. He offered to come to UF and provide us an interactive 2-day session with PS and integrating it with our work environment. If it is approved, we will host his seminar in late February. We are STILL waiting on word if this is approved or not. Peer2Peer is scheduled for Mid-March and will have multiple topics ranging from Endpoint Management, Web Dev (including disability access), HR and CIO interaction. UF Procurement services is asking for people to take a short survey in regards to P-Card service, the new Procurement Wordpress site and UF Marketplace. I encourage everyone to participate, it's a great way to make your voices be heard.
