Patching updates... (previous discussion)

Adobe

Flash, Acrobat, Reader, Connect, along with several other Adobe products, have updates here. Last updates were in July 10th.

Java

Java updates were in April for Java 8U171, for all major platforms. Release notes can be found here. Java 9.0.4 is now available. You can download it here.

Apple

There have been several Apple updates (July 9th), including a new system update, security updates and printer driver updates. This includes High Sierra, Sierra and El Capitan, along with iOS updates.

Videoconferencing and WAN discussion

Videoconferencing topics (previous discussion)

Skype Business for Mac has updates that should install using your Microsoft Autoupdater.

Zoom updates are available, either through Software Center or through Zoom directly.

Policy

Content Management System (CMS) (previous discussion)

In their continuing trend of trying to be transparent, we still don't know if Enterprise renewed the T4 license. Otherwise, no new updates besides a promise (again?) of forms support within the next 2 months.

Updates as available.

Last month's IT@UF Meeting Notes

You can now view the notes from each meeting at this link.

ITSA Policy and UF IT Policy

I've found it difficult to find the ITSA Computing Policy and the UF IT Policies, so I will provide the links here and keep them here.

ITSA - http://imm.ifas.ufl.edu

UF IT - http://www.it.ufl.edu/policies/

There will now be an ICC Policy Page that will keep track of policy and guidelines. These are not strict rules meant to dictate what must be done, but instead, a page of policies that are meant to help keep things running smoothly for each department and ITSA. You can find it here.

ITPAC is still setting up a meeting to go over policies. I will update that as it comes along.

Andrew Carey provided a link to fixing incorrectly named devices. You can find it here.

Projects

We are currently working on a new ICC site and integration of Yammer. Stay Tuned! The new site is planning on using Microsoft Teams, pending the outcome of the software policy exception being brought forth to the ITPAC members.

This is getting closer to fruition. Teams is now being used by several of us, though we have barely scratched the surface. Joe, any new updates?

ICC Retreat

The ICC Retreat was officially held at the Straughn Center on June 1st. We believe, judging from the survey and interactions, that it was an overall success. With that said, we want to improve on next year's retreat. Look for a new survey next week covering expanding the duration, which days of the week, repeating seminars, recording and streaming, etc etc...and most imporantly: food. We would like to involve the planning committee a little bit more next time around, so who is interested in being on the planning committee?

Operations

IFAS IT Updates (previous discussion)

IFAS IT decommissioning relay.ifas.ufl.edu (SMTP relay) service. Departments should move any devices, applications, or services that are sending mail via relay.ifas.ufl.edu to smtp.ufl.edu. Smtp.ufl.edu provides equivalent functionality for anything sending from ICT managed networks (on campus departments, VPN connected remote sites.) Reports of systems connecting to relay.ifas are being generated and department admins will be contacted about devices that need reconfiguring. (http://open-systems.ufl.edu/smtprelay)

UFIT has announced plans for notifying departments of remaining Windows 7 systems beginning in January of 2019 (https://news.it.ufl.edu/security/end-of-life-windows-7-and-win-server-2008/) Microsoft has expressed interest in hosting a workshop for researchers on using the cloud for Ag research. If you have any researchers in your area that might be interested in this, topic, please let me know and I'll help get them connected with the right people at Microsoft.

ITSA discussed the use of Onedrive and the improvements Microsoft has made to make Onedrive use and more efficient for us then Dropbox.

PowerShell Learning Group first meeting on July 24th in 3086 McCarty B. I will send out a Skype invite, but ask that anyone On Campus please attend in person if at all possible. Questions about the group?

Other Topics

UF IT Updates

Peer2Peer, held on March 22nd, was a success! Our own DeWayne Hyatt will be presenting on the IFAS Implementation of SCCM and there will be a presentation about JAMF, for those who are interested, along with several other important topics.

Mark Minasi gave a two-day seminar (April 5-6 at Emerson Hall, Room 209) that was an amazing success. The attendance was full and it was hands-on, dealing with Powershell and Active Directory. Several of our IFAS IT people were there. This was the very last Minasi seminar ever to be given.

That's All Folks!

The meeting was adjourned at 11:05. The next meeting will take place, Friday, August 10th.
