Recommendation for NetBIOS Filters at Remote Sites:

  The IFAS WAN group should filter NetBIOS (ports 135-139 and 445) at remote sites to allow only hosts from the ITNS and Helpdesk networks (128.227.242.0/24 and 128.227.103.0/24 subnets. End users should be encouraged to start using VPNs (http://itsa.ifas.ufl.edu/services/create_vpn_connection.htm) and ITNS should coordinate with the Help Desk to make sure that the end-user documentation on this and the issues it raises are complete, clear and as well-organized as possible prior to implementation.
